Bank of America (BofA) has revised its expectations for South Africa's interest rate cutting cycle, now predicting it will begin in September 2024, earlier than its previous forecast of January 2025. The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) kept the repo rate at 8.25% in its latest meeting, but minority voters called for a cut, indicating a shift in the monetary policy outlook. BofA expects four rate cuts totaling 100 basis points by March 2025, with the possibility of an outsized cut in September. However, the SARB may be cautious due to global concerns and potential impact on the rand. A weaker rand could impact inflation, while a stronger rand could lead to lower inflation. Investec Chief Economist Annabel Bishop notes that a delay in interest rate cuts in South Africa could strengthen the rand, but the SARB's dovish communication has already weakened the currency.
As a landlord, saving on a rental agency’s commission by managing your own investment property may seem like a smart move. However, having checks and balances in place as well as a correctly worded lease agreement could save you money - and headaches - in the long run.
Advanced tenant, client, and teacher vetting tools from a trusted Credit Bureau.
Who is TPN? Founded in 2000 by managing director Michelle Dickens, the company focus was to prevent habitually delinquent tenants from abusing property managers and landlords by creating a database to register these tenants conduct. In 2007, with the advent of the National Credit Act, TPN registered to become a credit bureau. TPN is the only credit bureau globally to specialize in the property industry and as such we have created many unique products which do not exist internationally. TPN has also formed close working relationships with global credit bureaux TransUnion and Experian to further enhance the abilities of our customers when vetting their tenants. However, our biggest contribution to the property industry has undoubtedly been the creation of a rental payment profile - another global first - which gives tenants the opportunity to improve their credit scorecard while renting premises. "I use TPN for all my personal investment properties and leases I do & would not recommend anyone who is either a property investor, or rental agent to go without using TPN."-Flat & Townhouse Specialist. Estate agent & Property investor, Menno van Mechelen."
